Hi…. Barbie??
This video shows a master doll-maker transforming a classic Barbie to meet current beauty ideals.
Evolving standards of beauty is not a new phenomenon, what is perceived as “beautiful” can be as cyclical as clothing trends; think about how having a sun-tan used to be extremely unfashionable, women wore corsets to make their waists as teensy as possible, and hair-goals are constantly fluctuating between pin-straight or textured. Changes in aesthetic trends are more remarkable now however, because we have so many more modalities available to tweak our appearances (think injectables, lasers, surgery, medicine, not to mention AI and filters), and social media makes it incredibly easy to spread content that shifts the perception of what is considered beautiful.
As ever, our mantra at About Face Aesthetics in Philadelphia remains the same: whether you’re interested in Botox, dermal-filler, CO2 lasers, Thermage skin tightening, chemical peels, everything or nothing; your concept of beauty in 2024 should be whatever you like to (safely) feel like the best version of you.
(Regardless of your feelings on various beauty trends, it is amazing to watch a master transform this doll.)
